Aussie almond volumes exceed expectations
Australian almond marketers remain on track to exceed last year’s record sales volume with one month left in the 2023-24 selling season.
The Almond Board of Australia has finalised January shipment and domestic numbers and volumes after 11 months are up 2.6% on the same time last year.
The numbers have exceeded expectations within the industry and underline the importance of cultivating a diverse export network but the demand remains tempered by low global pricing and high production costs which have combined to produce one of the toughest seasons for grower returns.
Improved volumes have been recorded in 19 countries with India, Turkiye and Spain leading the way. China sales have retracted on the previous season, which has largely been attributed to a reduced volume of high quality inshell.

Harvest for the new season is in full swing and it is expected export activity, especially into traditional inshell markets like India and China will be at record levels for the opening months of the new season. Ongoing dry conditions have produced favourable conditions to produce high quality inshell.
