Key markets drive demand
By Tim Jackson, Almond Board of Australia CEO
Demand for Australian almonds in China, India and Turkiye continue to drive record shipment numbers for the industry after four months of the new selling season.
The June Position Report shows all three destinations have opened the year at record pace, with India up 50% and Turkiye up 57% on the same time last year. China volumes represent 50% of total exports (kernel weight equivalent).
The strong volumes move underline the appeal that Australian almonds continue to enjoy due to the ongoing uncertainties surrounding US tariff levels and the potential for retaliatory measures.
At the annual China Tree Nut Conference in Ningbo last week, it was reported that demand for almond imports remained strong with Australia having more than 70% of the market share due to punitive tariffs imposed on California almonds.
