Unprecedented export demand driving almond sales

Export sales volumes for Australian almonds have already exceeded last year’s total volumes with four months left in the selling season.

The ABA’s October Position Report calculated today utilising a combination of ABA collated domestic sales data along with ABS export figures shows that overall sales volumes have all but matched the total sold for last season.

The industry has sold 129,303 tonnes from March to October, compared to 131,021 tonnes for the entire 2023-24 season.

China continues to be the driving force in export demand, now representing 55% of all exports and up 105% on last year.

Shipments to India are just ahead of last year’s record, up 2% but it is unclear whether there will be sufficient stock left in warehouses to maintain that trajectory over the last quarter of the season.

Sales into the Middle East are slightly up, but UAE has been the shining light with double the volume to the previous season. ABA CEO Tim Jackson said he expected sales volumes to significantly drop off for the closing fourth months of the season as marketers were consistently reporting low levels of uncommitted inventory.
