Dr Samantha Edley (Agriculture Science & Technology, formerly Agriculture Victoria Research) will present current research on key almond pests, including progress in developing tools for almond carpophilus beetle and carob moth management, updates on a cost–benefit analysis of sealed storage, and information on upcoming resources such as the updated Almond Pest and Disease Guide.

Jo Holloway will also discuss stockpile fumigation challenges and provide practical advice. Participants are encouraged to bring their questions and share observations from the current season.

An industry-wide monitoring network has been established to better understand the Almond Carpophilus Beetle’s (Carpophilus truncatus) behaviour and improve pest control methods. Agriculture Victoria has developed an attract and kill (A&K) trap specifically designed to target this beetle within almond orchards. However, while promising, the current form of the A&K trap is not yet commercially viable as a control measure. This presents a unique opportunity for growers to participate in monitoring efforts and provide valuable insights on how the trap can be optimised for future use.

This webinar will cover the implementation of the Carpophilus Beetle Monitoring Network and the roll out of the A&K traps. By collecting data from growers across different regions and orchard conditions, we can gather essential information on beetle activity throughout the season, which will inform the development of more cost-effective control technologies. Webinar participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the monitoring network, the traps’ current capabilities and how their input can drive improvements.
