Australian almond sales bounced back strongly in April after a slow start to the new selling season.

The industry’s shipments were up 11% on last season’s record volume for the month, pulling overall volumes for the opening two months of the year to within 2.9% of the same period last year.

Exports were up 13% for the month and domestic sales increased 4% on 2025 figures.

China continues to drive the buying activity, up 42% for the month and 33% over the first two months. Despite the challenging harvest conditions, inshell shipments were up 30% on last year.

As expected, shipments to the Middle East were down 85% on last year, but this demand has been absorbed across the Asia Pacific with Vietnam, China, Indonesia, Thailand and New Zealand all up on the previous season.

The importance of the exchange rate of the Australian dollar to the US dollar continues to be a key aspect to assessing returns.
